What It Takes to Become a PADI Instructor

For those who love diving and want to share their knowledge, becoming a PADI Instructor is the ultimate professional goal. As an instructor, you’ll have the skills to teach others, inspire new divers, and build a career in one of the world’s most exciting fields. At Ocean Dive Center in Abu Dhabi , our Instructor Development Course (IDC) prepares Divemasters to become certified PADI Instructors.

Here’s what the IDC involves and why teaching diving can be such a rewarding career.

Overview of the Instructor Development Course (IDC)

Ocean Dive Center’s Instructor Development Course (IDC) combines knowledge development, skill assessments, and teaching techniques. It prepares you to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor and independently teach courses. The course includes:

  1. Assistant Instructor (AI) Training: Covers basic teaching techniques and skills.
  2. Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) Training: Teaches practical skills for running and managing courses.
  3. Instructor Exam (IE): A two-day evaluation that ensures readiness to teach.

The IDC is structured to ensure new instructors feel confident, knowledgeable, and prepared to teach independently.
